R.I.P Windows XP

The unthinkable actually happened today. I took the whole day to convert everything I could over to my Mac today.

I intended this to be a gradual transition, but something finally made me snap. Here’s what it was. If you’ve checked out my previous post, the 2 version of “Perfect Ending”, you may have noticed a weird sound issue on the “Wookiee” version. Looks like I neglected to shift some audio tracks, and take one out. No big deal, right? Well, fixing it wasn’t a problem. I set up all the audio tracks where they needed to be, watched the new cut, everything looked great. Then, I went to render the new version. Immediately, Adobe Premiere crashed. I went to open the program again; it crashed before it could open. So I rebooted. Once it rebooted, I launched Premiere successfully. I went to render it, and it started just fine. When it got to the very end, the finalization of the MOV file, there’s that API I had over a year ago when working on Fan Film the Series.

That was it, that was the last straw. Oddly enough I was past the point of being angry and was in a freakishly Zen like state as I dismantled every single computer in my office, moved it to the living room, and began to clean, dust, re-wire and re-setup my entire office to accommodate my Mac.

From there I started to transfer over all the important files I would need and install and update the appropriate Mac programs I would need to work on them. A quite trip to the Apple store at the mall for few last things to make the transition, and it was complete.

I made a teeny little corner setup for my old XP machine incase I need something, but it’s going to be awhile until I fire it up, I can’t even look at it right now.

Jumping into this transition today has put me about 10 hours behind schedule on a project I wanted to spend the day on, but in the long run this will hopefully save countless hours in the future.
